SAILOR SPRINGS NEWS
Small towns across America are slowly disappearing. Mom and Pop stores are forced out of business by giant corporations. Loss of jobs send workers fleeing to big cities with hopes of better lives. The few hardy folks who refuse to budge from home they and their ancestors loved are left behind to get along as best they can with meager resources. One such town was my hometown, Sailor Springs, Illinois.
On the following pages you will read the story of that town and the brave souls who stepped forward, took a deep breath, and brought it back to life. My deepest appreciation to the publisher of the *Clay County Republican Newspaper, Danny Fender, and to my childhood friend, Linda Davidson, for preserving our town's rich history as told in her column, Sailor Springs News, "Today & Then". From time-to-time I will add my own treasured memories of life in that small town.

P.S. "Elvis" has been spotted many times over the years. One of the places "he" shows up every year is the third Saturday in September during Heritage Days in Sailor Springs. He sings, dances, and everyone has a great time. Hope you get there in time to see him!
